Rainy Day Activities for Storm Season
As we’ve mentioned before, with the sweltering summer temperatures comes storm season, and obviously, with storms comes a few rainy days. But don’t despair, although
Brisbane is known as the ‘Sunshine City’, there are a few fun things to do on rainy days. Check out a few below.
Get to GOMA
Southbank’s Gallery of Modern Art offers a multitude of fun and exciting activities to do indoors this summer. Feel cultured as you wander through Tracey Moffatt’s recent exhibition Spirited, or admire 30 years of Japanese Fashion in the aptly titled Future Beauty.
Take the kids, and let them channel their inner artiste with Michael Parekowhai’s drawing activity for kids. There are also several lovely cafes located just outside for you to sit and watch the rain pour down if you like. Whatever you choose to do, we guarantee you’ll have a ball.
Or take on your friends and family in a game of laser-tag. Or a karaoke competition. Strike Bowling in the city, located just above Queen St Mall has it all.
Strike also offers a fully-stoked bar and gourmet kitchen to supply your mob with beers, cocktails or pizzas, depending on your taste while you act out Fred Flinstone’s ‘Yabba Dabba Do’ catchcry, battle it out for your lives in the laser arena, or belt out Celine Dion. Win-win!
Bounce the day away
Quite literally. BOUNCEInc has recently opened in Tingalpa, meaning that an entire warehouse filled with giant trampolines is only a few minutes away! Perfect those secret gymnastic skills everyone has hidden inside them as you bounce from side to side of the centre, or just jump about screaming your head off, it’s all in good fun. Sessions last around an hour, and cost up to $16 excluding those fancy ‘bounce socks’ you’re required to wear.
No matter your age, you’re bound to have a fantastic time!
With centres located in both Acacia Ridge and Boondall, it’s easy to hit the ice during a rainy day these school holidays. It’s fun, cool and actually a decent workout. Don’t stress if you ain’t Stephen Bradbury, no one is expecting you to win gold. Well, no one was expecting him to either, but you get the point.
Just pop those skates on, and have a great time. Again, whatever age you are, you’re sure to have a fabulous time on the ice.
Cuddle up in a movie theatre
It’s an oldie, but a goodie. Cuddle yourself up with a partner, a friend or the kids to enjoy a good film at the movies. Good films hitting our screens in Brisbane this summer include the naughty Fifty Shades of Grey, the third installment of The Hobbit movies and the kiddie-friendly Penguins of Madagascar. Well, when we say ‘kiddie-friendly’, we mean for anyone young at heart.
Hopefully we won’t have too many of those miserable rainy days, but if we do, you know what to do.
